Posts: 456 | rant warning wii online sucks wii online really sucks. only one game i know of has online and thats mario strikers. you can't talk to your opponent, you have to have friend codes, and very few games support it. why is nintendo stuck in the 5th century in online play and graphics? they were out way before the xbox or playstation they should be leading the charge. |

Posts: 1,579 | An actual answer would be that I think Nintendo thinks that their customer is stupid and afraid (or unaware) of the internet and technology. Why else would they dumb down the system and try to make Power Glove 2.0.? Nintendo is stuck in the past and still treat their customers like dumb kids. |

Posts: 828 | I have been a long time Nintendo fan and still have much respect for them as a company.
They've been around since last century (Really).
They've single handed restored the gaming industry as we know it will the NES system after the Computer Games crash of 84/85.
They led the market right through to the SNES.
They invented the Robot (ROB), the power glove.
They invented Rumble and Wireless for controllers (or first to implement it).
They've now invented the Wii Remote with its motion sensing capabilities.
They've created many franchises and were the first to take the gaming from 2D to 3D (again, dont quote me here) but Mario 64 was revolutionary.
But they seemed to have stopped in my Opinion. they should be leading the hardware and technological revolution of gaming, with Online Play, HD, Digital sound, but Nintendo is of the beleif that this market is not big enough and not the future of gaming. In essence, Nintendo refuses to fight for the gamers in the pie of people. Instead its trying to capture a new pie, undiscovered territory, that is, the casual gamer, your mum, your dad, your grannys, girls, mums etc etc. Thats what Nintendo has done, and these people are responsible for ploughing the Wii so far forward in this next gen race. However, Nintendo is not next gen and is not wanting to be in this race. However, with 3 systems released and the 360 coming first, the Wii 2nd (and chasing 360's tail) and the PS3 dead last, one can not afford to shrug the Wii off as a non contender. The Wii has done spectaculary well, but again, this is new install base. For every child out there, or young teen, remember, there are 2 parents, and usually 4 grandparents out there who may now be playing games as a result of the Wii.
I am not a wii fanboy, I love my 360. Having owned many consoles, and even a Wii, I feel I can adequately comment on this. My love for Nintendo virtually died with their recent choices to go casual, and honestly 3 games in a console life cycle that a first party, ie Smash Bros, Galaxy, Zelda, are simply not enough to carry me for 5 years. I get 3 games like this a month for my 360! Just in last 12 months, I've got Gears, Halo 3, Bioshock, COD2, COD3, COD4 next month, Mass Effect, PGR4, etc. I mean great titles. I love the 360 and its a great piece of machinery.
I think Nintendo will eventually get online but in my opinion it will just be too little too late. Add no hard drive, no voice chat, slow messaging service, the Wii isn't really a machine for the technically inclined or the community driven person.
There I go again, another rant!

MP3C uses some sort of points trading online to unlock something or other. I think elebits had some sort of online component as well.
Coming soon (November): Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (32 player vs, also EA nation and FCless) and BWii (with online Coop)--both sans voicechat--and about 20 or so other unreleased titles like endless ocean, SSBB, and mario kart.
For me, it's not a question of scarcity. It's that the system is screwy. Even once voicechat is supported, all the best games will force you to punch in 12 and 16 digit codes, swap blood samples, and submit to psychological profiling to prove you know and can trust the other person before speaking to them. It doesn't matter how many great games a system like that uses--it's still going to suck. Not every publisher is big enough to substitute their own online system like EA can. Quote: |

| One firmware update to add usb drive support could eliminate any storage problems. Hopefully they come to their senses before WiiWare starts pumping out original titles--just recently the soon to retire Kaplan was explaining how gamers prefer juggling titles through SD swapping and redownloading rather having enough drive space to store them in the first place. Even though it's an easy fix, they seem to be resisting it.

Posts: 47 | I'm not a big Wii fan but they did do something right, maybe not online wise, maybe not graphically but they're still selling great. I am by no means an expert but I think with the money saved from pouring in all this tech into their system and their slow pace funding online they are planning on pushing out the Trojan Horse soon. Maybe there'll be a new "Wii" sooner than a next next gen 360 or PS whatever number. This is a good war and it gets better every year. Again I'm literally pulling this from my ass. And yes I'll wash my hand.

Posts: 176 | Hardcore VC gamers have already run out of space, and either have to swap games between flash and SD memory (which you can't run anything from) or delete flat out and redownload.
The biggest problem is that they're scaring retail developers away from offering downloadable content, a la GHIII. When we get some decent online shooters, why would they invest in a system to make, test, and offer new maps if they aren't sure their key demo (hardcore gamers) will have enough room to even use them? However for a couple months they've had execs explaining to gaming sites that redownloading is the official "solution" of NOA to any space problems. They claim it will remain the solution even after WiiWare.
Worst part is, this isn't even their dumbest move.
To wit, it's so freaking easy to fix. Firmware update enabling all 3rd party usb drives would take them how long to make? A couple of days? A few weeks for testing if they drag it out. Less since some lab rat probably already did it without authorization. If they want to go the extra mile, sell the rights for Wii Branding to Western Digital who can slap a Wii label on their My Book subbrand for casuals who don't know any better; everyone's happy, and Nintendo barely had to lift a thumb. It would take less energy than trying to convince Wii gamers that minimal space is a "feature'.
