PS3 dominant this year?

I'm sure everyone has heard some talk about how the PS3 will be the dominant system this year. The PS3 does have some nice exclusive titles coming out later this year. I.E. Haze, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and MLB The Show '09. I know MLB The Show might be weak but it is still an exclusive. I happen to believe all this is true. What do you guys think?

Undoubtedly Sony is dropping some huge exclusives this year. You forgot to mention the two largest as well: Metal Gear Solid in June and Gran Turismo later in the year. This will undoubtedly boost PS3 sales. What many people forget to mention is that Microsoft has a pretty strong list of potential exclusives releasing this year as well. Namely Alan Wake, Too Human, Fable 2, and the beast of a seller that will be Gears of War 2. If Microsoft indeed does release all of these exclusives this year I feel they have just as strong, if not stronger, of a lineup as Sony.

i think besides metal crap solid 3, and maybe their other fantasy game "gran turismo" (sorry but when you crash, there is always damage) they're dead in the water. the one thing thay'll help the ps3 this year is blu-ray technology. with the announce of GoW2 and the exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2, not to mention anything else M$ (which there has to be) has in store for us this year. As for resistance, w/e it was like finding glitter in a heap of turds.

you know, i haven't seen a single ps3 80 gig for sale anywhere. they still making that version? or did the 40 gig totally eclipse it? wonder if they will drop the price a bit more now...

If memory serves me right I believe they discontinues the 80 gig. I could be wrong though, but I know they discontinued one of the models.

If you want damage, go and play Flatout or Burnout. GT has always been about the racing. Gran Turismo 5 is going to set new standards in every department - especially graphics. I have the GT5:Prologue and there is NO better racing game in existence. It makes Forza 2 look like Disney's Cars.

GT is all about realism. If they included damage, it would be race over as soon as your plunge into the barrier. Forza has damage but you can miracolusly carry on racing after a 100mph smash.

Oh, and GT5 with the G25 is epic.

They don't have damage as the car companys who license their cars to game, don't want gamers seeing their cool cars all ****ed up. They have to be shiney and sexy.

fail to see the realistic aspect of that charles tbh.

Here is a question that i beleive will shed a light to pretty much all this PS3 VS Xbox issue. This is not coming from a Sony fan boy or a MS fanboy .

Why would someone Back up a console to a point to be known as a "blind Fan boy" . Why do people even care which of the 2 consoles is more popular than the other ? Do you honestly beleive that MS or Sony will reward their "blind fanboys" in one way or the other ?

This reminds me of a friend of mine in highschool that would buy Calvin Klein Jeans at 150$ per pair and when asked why he did that , his answer "I want the people to know that im wearing them so i want the tag on the Jean itself" . So he was paying more, to advertise a company's product. Shouldn't it be the other way around ?

All these Ps3 and Xbox Fanboys arguing which console is best ? Shouldn't it be the other way around ? Shouldn't we as gamers gather up as 1 group and try to get the most out of the situation?

Competition is good but some people are taking this at a personal level and this is just plain wrong. Like stated previously, do you honestly think Sony or MS actually apreciates each and every one of their fanboys ? Do you think that they will give 2 cents about you personally? The answer is simply , NO .

As gamers, we should consider ourselves lucky to have 2 good companies battling it out to be # 1. The way i see it ? I decided to go with MS for the following reasons.

1 - 360 came out prior to PS3
2 - The system was cheaper (I was hearing these rumors about the PS3 being 800$ and more)
3 - With the whole "live aspect" i want a console that will let me play with my friends .

Most good games come out on both consoles anyways so as a gamer , owning both consoles should be exclusivly for ... well .. exclusive titles lol, and i do not beleive that a single (or handfull of games) is enough to justify me buying a PS3 since i have my Xbox.

So to conclude , and to come back on the topic , My reply to the initial question is this :

"Do you think the PS3 will be dominent?"

Who cares ? As long as I can still play the games ive got with the now 18 000 000 other MS users and as long as MS will bring out new games, why should I care if the PS3 is successful or not ? If PS3 starts getting more people interested, good for them. It aint changing anything on my end.

*1 thing i should add, What will you do if PS3 out sells the Xbox 360 this year ? ... Will you continue playing all of MS good games anyways ? ... And finally what will you do if Xbox 360 outsells the PS3 this year ? will you continue playing all of MS good games anyways ? the answer is Yes in both cases so once again , who cares ?*

Well when you have the parent companies habitually lying to their user base (Sony) and ****ing them over with faulty units (MS) it becomes fairly personal. For me it is not strictly a video game issue, it runs much deeper than that and I would be happy to explain why through PM's or emails.

Sony WILL sell more consoles this year unless MS hits the $199 price point quick. As far as game line - ups it's pretty much a dead heat. MS was criticized by Sony fanboys and Sony itself for having too many FPS titles yet 3 of their marquee games are exactly that. MS diversified their gaming line up with Too Human (RPG) Ninja Gaiden 2 (Action) Halo Wars (RTS) and Fable 2 (RPG). I may have said I will buy a PS3 when God of War III comes out but Resistance 2 just might persuade me to purchase one much sooner. Until then it has nothing that interests me so there would be no point.

I'm an FPS gamer first and foremost so I will obviously buy a console that releases some kick ass FPS games. Kill Zone 2 is a meh but if I end up loving it I'll go cop a PS3 when that's released sometime in the summer. Until then it has nothing which interests me so I see no point in buying one just because.

sony is making room for the 80gb mgs4 edition with ds3. i think it has some good games coming out for it this year ie resistance 2. i rented the original resistance and liked online so much i bought it today. also, mlb 08 the show should wipe the floor with mlb 2k8. i will take your word on gran turismo. but besides resistance 2 an mlb 08 there is nothing i am really looking forward to this year. i think id rather have ninja gaiden 2 in june over mgs4.

It has not been discontinued, and in fact there is an 80gb MGS4 SKU in the works apparently. Many retailers have dropped it because its hard to justify the extra $100 when all you get is 40gb more storage, a couple USB ports and very limited backwards compatibility.

However, when I hear that games like DMC4 and Lost Planet require a 5gb installation, I start leaning towards the 80gb version when I pick up mine.

To the thread starter: Wii is the dominate console for 2008, not either of the good machines.

so is the 40 gig actually 'more advanced' in some of it's features? I knew the 80 had some extra stuff then just a bigger hard drive. Wouldn't both of them have backward compatible issues if the hardware is the same in both?

will the special MGS blend into its surroundings?

Its not the same hardware. The Emotion Engine was dropped for cost reductions in the 40gb model, among other things.

I have no interest in Wii either, but the fact remains it will sell more than the PS3 and 360 combined in 2008. Software is another matter entirely.
