PS3 version of GTA is 630p

The Xbox 360 version is 720p so the performance issues it has (slightly worse frame-rate and pop-in) are due to the fact it's running in a higher resolution. I wonder why Rockstar didn't drop it down to 630p too...

Course it does lol, Halo3 was 620p or even lower, noone was 100% sure.

Its what they do with alot of games Alex, its so they can get smooth FPS and overall performance. There's been several games on 360 and PS3 that have been the same.

All the reviews gave the game 10/10 for graphics, and stated the PS3 version pipped the 360 tech wise, It cant be very noticable.

The 360 version is, the PS3 version is only 630. Maybe the PS3 was having more trouble then the 360 is at 720?

if the ps3 hardware is so much more superior than the 360 why do they have to dumb the game down to 630?

That actual link has people saying the PS3 version is superior in the graphics department. But meh.

The resolution is "630p" when it comes out the frame-buffer but it is scaled afterwards before being sent along its way down the HDMI cable. So no, it wont look odd...maybe not quite as sharp as the 360 version but it makes up for it with better AA, better texture loading times and less geometry pop-in.

They obviously found some bottleneck in the system and the only way to get around it was to reduce the resolution so the frame-rate was a consistant 30fps.

^^ thats pretty much what most of the reviews are saying, the slight differences can be picked up if compared side to side however the game runs superb on either console. The choice basically comes down to personal preference (ie. what version your buddies are getting so you can take advantage of the massive multiplayer, which controller you prefer, if you need acheivements etc...)

630 is such an odd number. i was unaware that it was even used.

thats a new resolution to me too.. atleast they didnt take it down to 520 or 480!
still, that says so much about the "superior" tech machine that they could get the 360 version to run at a rate they were happy with at 720 and not the ps3. Im sure it has alot to do with the memory bottlenecking in the ps3 between the caches. either witch way, i had already made up my mind to wait for my coffin to arrive and give me a new unit (umm hopefully by june!) and get gta4 on the 360.

Well sure this isn't that big a deal. But the pisn camp is already broadcasting the PS3 verison is graphically superior. Little do they know its not.

ALso, Ign stated the pop in was less on PS3, but thats due to a Hard drive install making a huge difference. ALso, they did state the 360 version was sharper. Proof in my opinion of the resolution being higher.

At the end of the day, blame the reviewers who mention bull crap like this which causes this sort of crap to spread accross the globe, all the way to Sony Band Camp where they shout superiority.

1 Simple reasons why GTA is better on 360.
- Downloadable Episodic Content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats all that needs to be said, cause a texture pop or split second load timing difference is not what constitutes a significant difference.

At teh end of the day, the experience will be bigger and better overall on 360.

WHile were at it, check this out.

Currently in the IGN office, we can select the multiplayer option from Niko's cell phone, watch the device say it's trying to connect to the game provider, and get an error message.

"Cannot connect to game provider, please try again later," the text message says.

Players across the Internet are reporting the same problem.

This is why you get the 360 version!

Now we find that it's a big, fat cop-out.
