Posts: 477   |  ps3 downgrade rumors Sony Dismisses PS3 Downgrade Rumors Wade Steel Thu Jun 15, 5:00 PM Sony Computer Entertainment has vehemently denied an internet report posted yesterday that stated that the hardware specifications of the company's upcoming PlayStation 3 next-generation gaming console have been downgraded. The report which was posted on a popular internet site devoted to gaming (no, it wasn't us!) stated that the company was having difficulty fitting the PlayStation 3's components into the console case without the risk of signficant overheating. The article went on to state that the console's Cell processor would run at a speed of 2.8ghz as opposed to Sony's claim of 3.2ghz. Sony spokesperson Jonathan Fargher called the report "categorically not true." Fargher went on to state that developers have been working with PlayStation 3 development kits for a time period ranging from eight to 12 months and that any suggestion that the company would downgrade the hardware at this late stage of development was patently "ridiculous." In regard to the component size issue, Fargher affirmed that Sony's "over 40 years of experience making consumer electronics equipment" would provide the necessary expertise to "make things fit." ©2006, IGN Entertainment, Inc.
