Posts: 20 | New to XBOX - do I jump in w/Halo 3 or start with 1 and 2? Getting an XBOX as soon as I can find an elite (apparently they are as scarce as hen's teeth)
So do I jump in with Halo 3 (when it comes out of course), or is it worth starting with Halo 1 and 2? |

Posts: 75 | Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Bungie create Halo? That would mean that the books separate from the true storyline. Kind of like Star Wars. |

Posts: 3,238 | There's no need to play 1 & 2 to get enjoyment out of Halo 3. I logged hundreds of hours on Halo 2, but I didn't bother with the campaign mode. The online play is what makes Halo a great game. You don't need to learn, or care about, the plotline to enjoy the game.

Posts: 5,093 | Halo CE is a definite play. Period. The books do follow the gameplay storyline they only fill in the holes left through campaign play and then some. |

Posts: 3,238 | I'm not saying the story is good or bad. I'm simply saying you don't need the story to enjoy the game. Playing solo campaigns in shooters bores me.

Posts: 515 | It's Simple:
If you want to go through the whole story, and understand the concept and universe of Halo. Then play the first two games, and then play Halo 3.
If all that doesn't necessarily mean anything to you, then it will be okay to just jump into Halo 3 head on. If you're just interested in the gaming, fragging, and campaign mode for purpose of curiosities sake... just play Halo 3.
I've played the first two, but it doesn't help in my purchase. I'm buying it because I want a new shooter, and a new experience. |

Posts: 2,315 | the halo storyline is one of the most compelling of any FPS.
btw, if the books differ from the games, then the books are wrong, not the games jacko.. Halo was made by bungie.. the books came later... exactly like the starwars books.

Posts: 1,875 | The books are fine, they fill in a lot of holes that the games do not explain (such as the conception of the Spartan II program, history, and present issues). Reading the second novel, The Flood, is basically an overview of the Halo 1 game, and if you play the game and then read the book, you will be very bored.
Bungie recognizes that probably a small amount of Halo fans have read the books, so you could feasibly skip it. But if you get caught up in the storymode, then the books are a real bonus. I am willing to bet, however, that Halo 3 gives a very general overview in the beginning, and that you could just skip the first two games altogether.
But, since you have 3 months until Halo 3, you might as well do something with your time. |

Posts: 515 | Uhh sure you can, it's not like i'm a nazi or anything....
but he's not asking about the books. He's just wondering if it would be better to play the first two 'games' before he plays Halo 3. And the answer is obviously, it would be better to play the first two games, so you know how the story goes & where it is. But if you don't want to, it's not necassarily a big deal to just jump to Halo 3. Quote: |

Posts: 198 | I also didn't play the campaign on either. I didn't have an Xbox. I played many Halo 2 LANs with my friends though. I was always the easy one to kill, but not this time. Most of them don't have a 360 yet. |
