Posts: 28 | To stand or lay. That is the ???? Ok, which is best; stand the 360 up, or lay it down? And what about cooling it? I know to not use a Nyko fan unit from other forums that I've read. A USB powered unit the way to go? Thanks for any feedback. |

Posts: 3,238 | My 360 sits upright in an enclosed cabinet, without an external fan, and I've never had a problem. I don't necessarily recommend keeping your 360 in an enclosure, but I can't stand the noise. Horizontal vs. Vertical is just a matter of personal preference.

Posts: 5,094 | I have had mine both vertical and horizontal and have had very few problems. I have had it flat for a few months now although as Karma said, it's just a matter of personal preference. |

Posts: 515 | Agreed. I did have my vertical for a couple months, and I didn't have any problems. Now, I have mine laying horizontal and I still don't have any problems.
If you have your 360 in an area like your family room, with alot of human traffic, horse playing, etc. Then don't have it standing vertical. If it gets bumped or knocked over whatever game is in there will be scratched to hell. Horizontal is much safer. It can't be knocked over, and even if it is hit the disc is still laying horizontal in it's tray. So, the potential is not as great as if it was vertical. |

Posts: 199 | I stood mine up in the oven on 375 degrees for two hours, then laid it down until it browned and it played "Barbie's Magical Adventure" for 25 minutes straight. Then died. So I say, lay it down. |

Posts: 5,094 | The first batch of Nyko inter coolers had a notorious reputation for ****ing up your 360. I'm not sure how they are now but the one my buddy had was loud as hell. |

Posts: 92 | My 360 is horizontal. I always thought that it was pretty likely to scratch the disc if its standing up.

If it's horizontal, gravity would pull the disc to the tray. It seems more likely to scratch horizontally than vertically to me, but who knows?

Posts: 575 | I was reading somewhere that if your 360 is vertical, there is added pressure on some pin inside the cd rom drive or something, and it will screw it up quickly. I dont know, I've always had mine horizontal, vertical for pictures though. haha.

Posts: 28 | Hey, friedkarma, how much does a disc weigh? If it weighed a few pounds I'd agree. There simply isn't enough mass in a disc to cause gravity to pull the disc down that much, not to mention centrifugal force which would pull outward on the disc as it spun. Hey, I think I just answered my own question! If you place the console vertically, then centrifugal force would be more likely to cause disc damage than in the horizontal position, since gravity is also working on pulling the disc off the tray if it came loose. Ok, enough of today's lesson in physics. Maybe I should think about things more before I ask a question! Horizontal it is for me. |

Posts: 180 | When I first got mine the reports going around were that the ones that were laying horizontal were scratching more disc. Therefore I keep mine vertical and have never had a problem with it. I am too scared to lie it down and take a chance on losing 60 dollars on a game. It has nothing to do with needing to change anything in my room though to allow it to lay down. |
