Posts: 2,681 | MS Flight Simulator and TIE Fighter Do think MS will ever release a 360 version of flight simulator? I know the new one is dx10, but they could dumb it down a bit for the 360. Kinda surprised that MS has released it for its own console.
You know what else would be sweet, if Lucasarts released a remake, or something similar, to TIE Fighter or X-Wing. There really aren't many space sims out there. At least kick ass ones like TIE Fighter. Loved that game. |

Posts: 3,238 | Anything's possible, but I don't see much of a market for it on consoles. People that buy Flight Sim usually have specialized controllers suited to the game. I can't see Flight Sim fans being happy with using the thumbstick as a flight stick, and trigger buttons as rudder pedals.

Posts: 2,681 | yeah, i get what you are saying. ms probably has hardcore fans that want to use their 200 dollar flight rig with it...but then the 360 could make one, like the race wheel...
never liked that game/sim anyway.
but i do like tie fighter, and the 360 needs a sweet space game, preferably star wars based. that star trek one is big poop, so let's not mention it. |

| | | Ace Combat 6 would be a good buy. Its the closest thing you will get to a flight simulator. As jack mentioned, rent Blazing Angels. Unless you can buy it used for under $15, it is not worth the full price. The Multiplayer isn't that great either. BA2's on the other hand isn't bad, more arcady if anything but the multiplayer is nice. If anything I would recommend Ace Combat 6 if you want the real experience. | |

Ace Combat is closer to what console flight sims are like.

Posts: 689 | The flight stick that came with Ace Combat 6 would be more then adequate for a flight sim if coupled with a usb keyboard that worked ingame. That flight stick was a two piece and has everything that the average flight stick has. NO FFB though which is a huge downfall for me.

Posts: 2,681 | you could be onto a peripheral that MS could make and sell for way to much money (like the wireless thing that is 100 bucks).
It's funny, after i wrote this post about a space game, like tie fighter, arcade downloaded a demo of wing commander. it was super crap, but it was a space game (and some would argue from a line of fun space games, but i always like the star wars xwing games best) nonetheless.
now if lucas arts could just make a new console version of tie fighter, based in the original trilogy of course, i think it would do well.
Flight Sim i think is really aimed at a certain crowd, and not really a game many people would enjoy. Like games about submarine warfare with 500 page instruction books. You're looking at a niche market. A big niche, but a niche still. |

Sadly Microsoft seems to be going into a laid back low key atmosphere for it's gaming options, Oblivion knocked out a vast and long game but it pretty much stands alone in length and depth. Now alot of games are just short and shallow. I would love to see Tie Fighter on 360 but I would need something more than a 360 controller to handle the game. |

Posts: 2,681 | i think you hit on a point about how short games are now days. i think it is because they want you to play online, and spend that money for gold (which isn't a whole lot, but it is 60 bucks more then someone not getting gold). you make a short single player game, but a whole lotta crap for online, you end up getting online. look at how many achievements you can only get online with more and more games coming out (like achievements do anything), like halo3, MOH airborne, and more (i only have those 2).
so basically people who never wanted to hook their consoles to the interweb would be out of luck. i didn't want to do it, but i ended up doing it for a friend who moved away (unfortunately all he plays is h3). but consoles need something to shoe in on the interweb gameplay market that PC's have ruled for so long. |
