Default anybody with linksys connection to live??

having problems again with my live setup and xbox customer support arent helping. my live account will not connect and i cant understand why, i think its to do with security. if i put a WPA passphrase on it wont connect to the network but if i put a WEP key on it it connects to the network but says there is a problem with the IP address. on top of that it wont even connect if i disable security all together. you can see the network is there and also that there is indeed a signal but why cant i connect it???!!!! please help!!

I would start by sticking with WEP security if you want to have security. Neither is that much more secure then the other.

Next I would cycle your router. (Unplug in for 30 seconds)

Last I would delete any connection profile from your 360 and start from scratch. Changing router or security settings can cause crazy things on your network. I have usually found it best to slow down and start from scratch when things are not working right. 99% it will sort its self out.

I would also recommend checking that your router firmware is up to date. Good luck~

That's solid advice.

I use a Linksys router and have no problems. As far as security goes, in addition to WEP, I also enable MAC filtering because I use my laptops and Pocket PC on my network. I have had very few issues with my network, but when I do- cycling my router and modem seems to work. I would recommend starting from scratch with WEP as well.

What Linksys router do you have?

JackSmith - Sure, tell us!

And yes, I have a Linksys router. The Wiressless-G WRT54G router to be exact. So far, I haven't had any problems. Make sure you following the directions to a 'T'. I can't stress that enough... follow the directions! Everything is straight forward, and your components should be recognized immediately as soon as it's wired to your connection. If your stuff isn't being seen by the router (which shouldn't happen if its done right), then something isn't right.

I was going to post somthing simular, i will just post it here, in hopes it will be read. I didnt relise there was a differance between wirless routers, and wireless access points. I bought a wireless access point, and my laptop works on it no prob..... but my Wii and 360 wont connect to it. it shows lyncsys as an option, but cant find access point. This is not my area of expertice......

Actually WPA is quite a bit more secure than WEP when it's implemented properly. In fact it came to be because of WEP's many security problems. But WEP is better than no security at all - and more compatible with most wireless setups so I'd stick with WEP and try to get it working that way.

We'd need to know quite a bit more about your setup rozza161987 to properly diagnose the situation. First off - can any wireless devices connect to it? Is DHCP or UPnP enabled in the router config? Also - do you have an Ethernet cable? If so, will the 360 connect to Live if you connect it wired? That may tell us a little more about what's going on.
