Default Ip Address Is Failing Please Help

Ok heres the facts..

-i have DSL
-my modem is up to date
-i have a linksys router

IP address is failing, it shows a wired connection.. but once it tries to grab the ip address it fails?

I hooked everything up .. reset my router.. tried connecting the xbox 360 directly thourgh my dsl modem.

Still doesnt pass. Called tech support several times.. they say .. i need ANOTHER adapter because the ethernet port on the 360 doesnt connect to the internet. And another tech said its my cat5 cable.. but my dad works at sprint.. and made the cable himself and that has been checked so i know that works. Still not finding the ip address .. i can connect to the internet through my router and modem with 2 different pc's my laptop through wireless and my desktop through wired.. manually entered everything and still doesnt work.. PLEASE help .. im stumped and want to enjoy xbox live!

My first thought would be to turn off any firewall/security software you have running. Next you could try cycling your modem and router (unplug and plug back in). Last you can try and delete the connection profile on the 360 and try again. Good luck~

You may have to manually assign an IP address to your 360, depending on your routers configuration. (Auto assignment of I.P address might be disabled). For example, if your computer's address is: 192.168.1.1, then assign your 360: 192.168.1.2. Also make sure UPnP is enabled on your router.
OR
You may just have to reset your router altogether. I have to do it quite frequently with mine. It just has a hiccup every now and then, and suddenly my router just decides it won't let something on my network use the internet anymore.

It sounds like it's your cable dude... not to rag on your dad or anything, but I've worked in IT for near 10 years, and I can't make a perfect cable every time. Check the 360 and your router to see if you have a link light.

If you do have a link light, sounds like DHCP from your router is either not working or turned off. Then try assigning a manual address as BossCheese suggests.

I agree with cablekiller - sounds like a cable issue (or possibly DHCP).
