Default Ethernet Cable Not Long Enough.

My router is upstairs.
My Xbox 360 will be downstairs.

I want to use an ethernet connection to connect the two but running an ethernet cable downstairs just does not seem practical to me and besides, I do not have an ethernet cable of that length. Also, the wi-fi adapter for the 360 is not an option for me. What should/can I do?

I have a 50 foot ethernet cable extended with a CAT 5 to another 50 foot cable. You can buy 50 footers at commercial stores but they can be expensive. I have 5 50 footers for old school Halo CE LAN parties

Well you only have two choices (three if you count moving your console). Run a cable or do the wireless set up. As the others have said you can get a cable in any length you want. Home Depot for example will cut it off a spool up to 1000 feet or some crazy length. Good luck~

When in doubt, drill a big hole in your ceiling.

yeah not much option here bud, its either wired or wireless, or no live, its that simple. Either pick up one that is the appropriate length and run it through your house (through walls or whatever) or else go wireless, theres your decision. Or yeah of course you could move ur 360 closer.

my best advice would be find a way to bring the 360 to the ethernet, thats what I do, I have my ethernet cable in my room for my computer. . . so I got a small tv and only play on it when i want ethernet, otherwise i bring the 36 back downstairs and play on the larger tv.

but dont get wireless
it's expensive, laggy, difficult to connect and operate, nad a pain to get ahold of one

And I would disagree with most of that...

do what i did, my dad got like 3 ethernet cables from work and cut the ends off and somehow made it into on huuuuuuuge cable, i dont know exactly how he did it but its easy so chances are you or someone you know can do it. now my cable runs from the router in my room under the carpet and all the way downstairs and into the living room for when i feel like taking my xbox down there and using it on the big tv

oh and for whichever jackass is gonna pop on and say that the length of the cable will slow down the connection or something without actually knowing.....it doesnt, its just as lightning fast as it is in my bedroom right next to the router and modem

I wouldn't say that length would slow it down (although at some length it will), but splicing three cables together has the potential to. Hopefully you don't have problems, but if you do that would be the first place I would look. If you happen to have multiple cables laying around it might be a good way to save some cash, but if not I would have done the Home Depot spool route.

yeah theres at least 3 spliced together and i'v never had a single problem with it in any way so i'd reccommend it if you have the cables availible, we only did it because my dad "got" a bunch of cables free from work

the cables have to be exactly the same type or else it will have problems. you can always get a connector with two female ends to hook up ethernet cables together they are only about 3 dollars. and amazon has good deals on ethernet cables. I got a 50 ft. cable for about 6 dollars.
