Well, I really don't know much about this but your best bet is just hooking it up for a little bit, sign up for Xbox Live silver (Which is free) and download the updates. This should do.

I've never updated via CD. Jacksmith's suggestion is good, provided you have broadband. If for some reason it's a pain in the rear to it that way, I'd suggest you hold off for 2 weeks. The next update is rumored for the first week of December. At least that way you'll be current until late spring. While you're at it, you may want to boot up your games to grab any updates, and get any downloadable content you might want.

Hi muppants and thanks for your first post !

Like the other two posts have said, it would probably be easiest just to take your xbox to somewhere in the house that you can hook it up to quickly and get the latest update. You could even take it to a friends place quickly if you don't have broadband.

However if these options are not available, here is the xbox page that explains how to update with a cd. Have you followed these step by step?

Xbox.com | How To - How To Get O.S. System Updates For Your Xbox 360

If you're still having trouble it might even be worth calling xbox customer support to see if they can assist further. 1-800-4-MY-XBOX

Good luck !
