Default Monitor or HDTV??

Hey!

Im currently undecided on whether to get a HP W2207 monitor - which has the best display I have ever seen, or whether to get like a philips 26" hdtv. Any suggestions?

And also, can you have two things plugged into a monitor at the same time? For example, the HP has a DVI and VGA connection, so i plan on connecting a freeview box (via DVI) and my 360(via VGA). However, monitors dont have channels, so how would you change what appears on the screen (ie switch from freeview to 360)

Help would be appreciated

I would get the HDTV, with that you can watch TV play 360 and use it as a PC moniter. with the moniter your stuck to one input at a time, as the moniter just shows what ever is being fed into it. where as like you say the HDTV has channels and you can run lots of inputs at once, also HDTVs have better response time and contrast ratio usually and on the whole would be a better investment.

In my personal opinion, I'd go for an LCD HDTV over a monitor. The games are designed and optimised for the resolutions that TV's have standardised (1366x768 and 1920x1080). Also, you get alot more for your money with a HDTV, in terms of size.

And mate, if you go HDTV, I'd get a Samsung. They offer better quality and AMAZING prices online. Look on www.play.com for instance, you will find great deals.

The response times of HDTV's are high than those of monitors, actually. Typically, monitors have 4ms response times whereas TV's are 8/12ms.

thats interesting that..most of the guys on 'TeamXbox' seem to think a monitor was the better option. But yeah iv had my eye on a Samsung R87, which is pretty neat. Hmm, hard to decide...

I have a TEAC 32 Inch LCD, with true 1976 x 1080i HD. Its great for my 360. I also have a 22 Inch Dell Monitor. I have my PC connected via DVI and sometimes I play my 360 on it which is also connected via VGA. On the front of my monitor is a button that simply can switch between the two inputs.

Its fantastic. Plus I like playing on both. Personally I prefer the LCD tv, but I wouldn't use my PC on it.

Monitors are only cheaper if you go for small sizes, and then you really aren't getting much HD benefit.

Personally, I'd go 26" HDTV as you can pick a good one up for under £400 nowadays. Try finding a similar sized monitor for that

I have both, I have a Samsung Syncmaster 226BW and a Samsung CRT HDTV. I play my 360 on the Syncmaster most of the time it has a 2ms refresh rate is 720p widescreen setup. And they have switches on monitors to switch from analog and digital source, this being VGA-analog,DVI-digital.[i] purchased my monitor for under 300.00 and bought a logitech 5.1 X-540 for 60.00 from Sam's Club. My system rocks the sound system has great Bass and the picture is awesome. People have actually copied my setup. 3 of my friends have similar setup's now. All have the sound system but they have different monitors. My Syncmaster comes with 4yr warranty from Samsung. If you don't have HDTV setup this is the cheap way to go. You will be able to use PC and 360. I use a HDMI to DVI for 360. ANd use my Dell to VGA on the monitor. Go to monoprice.com to get all your cables, they even have the 360 VGA cable for 9.00 that;s 30.00 cheaper then retail. I get all my stuff there and never have had any probs. Hope this Helps, Good-Luck!
