I have a standard TV which has component and the normal video outputs...I have the 360 pluged into the standard video outputs and am wondering if i plug it into the component will i see any differance in the quality of picture,games,ect?

Why not just try plugging in the component and examine the results for yourself? You can be the best judge at the end of the day mate.

Yes, Component looks better than Composite by quite some margin. With component, the video is separated into 3 RCA interconnects (R, G and B) which has a lot more bandwidth than Composite and therefore you get much better definition and colour vibrancy.

Component is the next best thing to moving up to HD. In terms of quality of interconnect, it goes:

HDMI/DVI = VGA ~= Component > S-video > Composite > RF/Coaxial

i am not quite sure why one would put component on a standard tv. it is interlaced, and you won't get a progressive picture out of it. so the best you can hope for is 480i.
i have a standard 27" with component in, and i can't tell the difference between S-video and the component. if i try to switch the output of the dvd player (which is using the component cables) to 480p, it will not display on the tv.
you can, however tell the difference between s-video/component and the standard rca jacks (like scot said). on my gambecube, when i used the s-video, the picture was clearer and more defined, then with the rca jacks, but it still was not a highdef or progressive/non-interlaced picture, because it was on a standard tv. like the other guys said, you need a HD tv to display 480p and higher resolutions.
