Posts: 128 | Is my Xbox 360 dying? I've had my 2nd refurbished Xbox 360 (Core) for two years now. About 30 minutes ago, I had been playing it for over an hour when suddenly I got the RRoD. I turned it off, then back on, and it worked. 1 0 minutes later it RRoDd again. I turned it off, then on, and it loaded to the dashboard, but then I shut it off.
I have 5 fans on it. The Nyko Intercooler (modded to have it's own power source) and 2 external fans. The 2 external fans blow new, cool air into the Xbox 360 while the Nyko Intercooler pulls out old, warm air.
Is my 360 dying? Because if it is, it's modded and I'll need to get a 3rd party to repair it for a fee. Someone please tell me whether or not I should start saving up my money.
Thanks,
Nate
P.S. Xbox 360 forever, even if mine dies.

OK when you say RRoD do you mean the actual 3 flashing red lights that signify a hardware failure? Or is it 1 or 2 lights?
About 6 months ago my 360 went RRoD and after an examination I found that my Nyco Intercooler 360 fan had Melted and Burned where it plugs into the 360. luckily I was able to detach it without breaking the prongs in the plug and the 360 stopped RRoDing when I tried to use it without the fan.
Then just last week I started getting 2 red lights which means overheating. So I took off the faceplate & drive off then I huffed and puffed and blew many lungfuls of air into all the vents on my 360 which kicked out a large amount of very fine particles of dust with a nasty black oily consistency, THEN I hooked up my vacuum cleaner with the brush and sucked the **** out of all the vents on the 360 while blowing air into the other vents. All that nasty oily dust was apparently frying inside the 360 trapping heat and causing the 360 to overheat. |

The official RRoD. Me and the guy who can repair it thinks it's the RAM chip, because I cleared my HDD of updates and such, and the game has been playing fine for about 30 minutes now (3x as long).
But I had a friend with the same problem, and his 360 eventually died.

Posts: 2,425 | i had 3 red lights once, but it happened after i turned it on after we had a power surge. turned it off and it's been working well since. however, those 3 were in the wrong quadrents vs the rrod quadrents.
either way, from everything i have read, once you get them, it's a matter of time before it's terminal. might as well do what you need to do to get it fixed, cause it's gonna happen, probably sooner then later.
i found out my warranty ends in about 6 days on my elite. that's nice to know.

SO if its RROD, you've got another 2 years of warranty dude.
