Default Gabe Newell: Not Happy About Optional Hard Drive

Gabe Newell (Valve Boss) had a recent interview with magazine Computer Gaming World, in which he makes it clear he is not happy about the hard-drive being optional in the XBox 360, in that he can't count on it always being there.

Quote:
Look, I spoke to some people at Microsoft, and as I said, I can't point to a single feature in Vista that I care about that solves problems for us at all. And I had the same conversation with the Xbox 360 guys. It's like, Xbox 360 doesn't make my life any better, and in fact, it makes it a lot worse, as you're telling me I can't count on having a hard drive."

As you can see, Valve’s head honcho and former Microsoft employee isn’t happy about the fact that developers can’t rely on the Xbox 360 hard drive and he’s probably not the only developer who feels that way.

Make sure you pick up the latest issue of CGW, which hit stands next week. There are more interesting items in that interview, including Valve’s revelation that EA plans to offer a Steam-like service in the near future.

Well, quite frankly, I am not happy either. The HDD should have been included regardless of which option you chose. A 20 gig HDD should not cost $99.00. If it had cost closer to $25.00, then I would have been fine with buying the "core" version and getting a HDD to go with it. Even still, the HDD should have been included with both versions.

yeah, it's not life-threatening, but you can go 2 weeks without sleep and not getting anywhere in coding. why do you think i'm not in college for developing right now?

yeah, it's just really painfully stressful on your mind.

geez, like the first code i ran, ever, was through a n64 at my ex-friend tony's house. it took 2 hours just to make a branch! you don't know how intricately detailed the codes have to be to get what you want.
