Default Dvd playback issues for High Definition

Everyone knows the 360 plays Progressive Scan out of the box but can anyone comment on the definition output during Dvd playback? My Dvd player currently Out puts 480p 480i so i am holding out on buying a new one until I get specifics on 360's output definition during DVD play. My tv has an active 1080i, 720p and it's a shame dvds I own dont look as good as they would on HBOHD channel on my HD cable package. Now If xbox 360 outputs 1080i for dvd playback it would save me money on buying a new high end DVD player that outputs DVD @ 1080i.

I know that someone has the info out there.... Cmon Papa Smerf01 I need your techie goodness!

I think they are ~$140, The picture looks alot more like HD cable/satillite, but it is depends alot on the quality the DVD was recorded in. Like LOTR look simply breathtaking, some of the older movies might not look as good!
