Default Question about Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable

I am considering buying a DLP TV in the near future. However, I won't be able to afford the TV right away when the XBOX360 is released. The question I have is would the LCD I use for my computer provide a picture that would be comparable to the HDTV running 720p?

Assuming your PC monitor has a horizontal resolution of 1280 pixels, then yes, it should be capable of displaying a 720p signal with the VGA cable. However, unless it's a widescreen monitor, the image will be letterboxed.

There are a couple of gotchas' though:

1) It will be a comparatively small image compared to a decent sized TV
2) Your monitor will have absolutely zero image enhancement features, which could mean you see more artificats because the image is too sharp.

TVs, even HDTVs, have a natural "blur" to them, and they also offer any number of image enhancements depending on the make and model of TV. These all combine to make a more natural looking image. That's why most PC games end up looking too "clinical", because everything looks too sharp and clean.

That's not to say the image on your monitor will look naff, it won't. Just remember that you are not getting the best out of your XBox 360 that way.

nope unless you have 2 moniters i dont think its possible, there is some switch u can buy for ur vga lead to do something like that but never heard about it or know anyone who has it, its probably dodgy.
just manually plug out the moniter of vga lead and stick it in ur pc, not that hard.

also this is an old thread u brought back, 2005! lol

search the audio/visual forum will give u all the info u need.

And the vga lead will give you HD gaming on ur moniter yes, not proper HD as it is 4:3 most likely(not widescreen).

But its a hell of alot better then a SDTV alsong as the screen is a nice size like 15'' or something would be too small imo.

You mean use 2 inputs for your monitor but you only have 1 VGA input on the monitor?

If so, you can. You just need to buy a VGA switcher:

SVGA Splitter 2 & 4 Port

That's one in the UK but just look for a similar product in your area. If you find one and want feedback on it, just post it here and I'll help out

Mr pesimistic! Video switchers are fine aslong as you buy one from a respected brand.

You're right, it's just your response is a bit long-winded.

A VGA cable on a normal (not widescreen) monitor IS High Definition but you just don't call it that (just call it High Resolution) because it's not Widescreen. Simple.

If your monitor has a resolution of 1280x1024 the quality will be higher than 720p and if it's 1024x768 it will be pretty similar (1024x768 is the same height in pixels, just in 4:3 format).

If your monitor has an actual VGA input on the back of the monitor itself (input panel) and not an in-built VGA cable which connects to your PC, you don't need to use the Female-Female adapter.
