Posts: 48 | Hdtv I'm thinking of buying a new hdtv for my xbox360, but they're all so frigging expensive. Do any of you know about any models that aren't so pricy. I'm thinking of getting maybe a 20" widescreen. |

Posts: 24 | It really depends on the TV itself too. Of course it will look better on a HDTV, but then you also look at the amount of colors, the contrast, brightness, comb filter, progressive scan, and especially the response time, among others. If you play a game, that has some fast gameplay, and your TV has a high response time, then you could see some ghosting appearing on the screen. Ghosting is when the movement is too fast for the TV and leaves a kind of a trail behind! So you have to take things like that into consideration too. And if you are about to buy a HDTV, then make sure that it has a digital output, DVI or HDMI. HDMI is the best one - then you get both picture and sound digitally - DVI is only digital picture. Don't get me wrong, you can use the component output, but in the future DVD players and so on will support HDMI in particular (and the 360 will too!) So don't just buy a cheep TV, just because it says HDTV-ready or something like that. It's not only the resolution that is important but also the things that I mentioned before.
I just bought a 26" HDTV from Samsung, with a contrast of 3000:1, a response time of 8 ms, progressive scan, 3D comb filter and HMI, just to mention some specs. I really look forward to gaming on that with the 360
Cheers...... |

Posts: 24 | You've got a component output, which the 360 will support right out of the box. The HDMI/DVI output will be supported at a later stage on the 360. I think they eed to make the cables first, which are not set to be released on launch, but some time they will. HDMI and DVI offers you digital picture (HDMI offers you digital sound too!)
Cheers.......... |

It is also hard to see all the details on a 17 or 19" TFT monitor! And if you have a big widescreen TFT monitor, then in most cases it will have a high response time and therefore not recommended for gaming!

I really look forward to gaming on that with the 360 | I just bought the 26" Samsung too, although the 3000:1 contrast is a marketing gimmick. It's actually 800:1, which is boosted to a virtual 3000:1. I highly doubt it really is 3000:1, but those blacks sure do look black, and the whites are bright. That's the main thing.
Still, as far as HDTVs go, it's got pretty much everything you need, including HDMI, and for the price, I couldn't find anthing close. |

Posts: 806 | Ok I've seen quite a few LCD "HDTV ready" moniters in Sears. What exactly does HDTV ready mean? That it's not really a HDTV or it emulates it or what? |

Posts: 502 | "HDTV ready" means if you get an external HDTV box that the TV can display the HD signal. Just means it doesn't have it built in.
Built in just gives you more options, like you can hook an HD anenna to the tv (if yours is compatible and has the tuner) and the TV will pick it up over the air, basically it just does its own work rather than having a box do it. There used to be a lot of HDTV Ready sets but nowadays most are built in. I rarely see anymore that are just hd ready

Posts: 806 | I saw a bunch in sears. I was just wondering if this was equal or considerably 'not as great' as having a real HDTV |
