Default Both wireless controllers won't connect but remote works

I have 2 wireless controllers that both power up but won't connect or sync.

The XBOX360 DVD remote works just fine so I think the IR port on the XBOX360 is ok.

I've tried 4 sets of fresh batteries. No difference.

Any ideas?

You have to press the small connect button on the 360 and then the one on the wireless controller for it to connect. It won't connect just by turning the controller on.

Yes, that's what I mean by sync.

I've done that several times with no luck...just spinning green lights.

Hmm...I have to believe it's something you're doing because I don't believe that two new controllers coincidentally don't sync to the 360. Keep trying. Tell me how exactly are you syncing it?

They aren't new controllers. I've had the XBOX360 since June with no problems.

The kids went to play it yesterday and couldn't get either controller to connect.

They had been playing Rock Band before that (which had wired guitar and wired drums, those work fine).

To sync, I'm first turning on the XBOX then hitting the controller's guide button (green X). It flashes but never goes to just the first quadrant (which is what is used to do).

Then I press the sync button on the console, followed by the sync button on the controller. The green X circles for a bit then goes back to just flashing. Same thing happens with both of my controllers.

Hmm...I can't tell if it's your controller or your xbox. Try going to a game store and ask if you can try connecting your controller to their xbox 360. Then you'll know for sure where the problem is coming from.

Since both controllers aren't working, it sounds like the 360. I'd call 800-4MYXBOX. You're still under warranty.

Try unhooking any extras such as harddrive wireless router all the way down to the core unit then try connecting. Worked for me once.

Thx for the advice.

I unhooked everything and the controllers connected OK.

Then I added back everything but HD-DVD and the controllers still connected OK.

I added HD-DVD and that seems to be the problem! If I plug the HD-DVD into the back USB port then the controllers DO NOT connect. But, if I plug the HD-DVD into a front USB port then the controllers connect OK.

call MS they have answers, I wouldn't want an ugly usb port bothering my H3 faceplate.

Did you check the batteries? When my batteries get low they do the light spin thing, then just power down. however, they still connect even when they are going out...but it still could be worth a shot.

also i use my xbox remote all the time with my controllers off, and it does work fine, so that is pretty normal i'd wager.

does the 360 allow you to use keyboard and mouse in games via the usb ports in the front?

I can confirm a USB keyboard does function on a 360 as I have had one for over 2 years and it works great. The mouse I am not 100% sure of.
