Posts: 1   |  someone please help.... I installed a new dvd rom drive in my xbox 360. everything went good but now the machine will play a music cd and a dvd with no problem however it wont play any games. when I put a game in it says to play this cd put it in a xbox 360 consol, has anyone ever seen this before. I've tried the games in a friends machine and they work good. |

Posts: 2,676   | yeaahhh...with shane on that one. how did you change the drive? you just buy one at a retail store and take it apart and install it? or are there actual 360 drives you can buy and change out? seems like that would kinda void any warranties and protections that MS has on the machine. |

Posts: 2,248 | Don't think that drive you put in will work need a ms flashed drive as it is proprietary software. No matter what you do it will not work with 360 games. Hopefully others will know more about this than me.

Posts: 792 | yeah I remember reading that ben heck article about constructing an xbox 360 laptop and it mentioned something about a flashed drive... That drive you installed only knows how to play music and DVDs, it doesnt have the inate capability to play games. |

Posts: 1,579 | no, you can't. you will have to flash the drive regardless. you will need to get the drive key off of your original drive, then "spoof" the hitachi with the new drive key and firmware that makes the 360 think it's the original drive. with that said, although you will have to "flash" the drive, you don't have to flash it with ixtreme firmware. in order to "spoof", you will need to download maximus toolbox and read the tutorial. alternatively...you can buy the toshiba/samsung drive, swap out the drive firmware boards, and you should be good to go. no flashing requried. |
