Default Help my xbox is scratching disks!!

My xbox 360 has been playing up for a while now. Sometimes it won`t recognise game disks at all, other times it comes up wit a message saying "unable to read disk". It also scratches disks. A friend at work has told me that this happened to his 360 just before he got the ring of death. He also said that microsoft fixed his for free even though it was out of warranty, is that true? I`ve had the console for 18 months now so what options do I have?

Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated as I have a copy of GTA IV just sitting here gathering dust & it`s driving me mad

If you don't have it vertical, send it to MS.

In a stern voice, tell it to knock it off!

Then, send it away to MS before the inevitable.

Ok, my younger bro was complaining his 360 was scratching his GOW disk. When he would play, he'd constantly get this disc is scratched etc etc. So I tried my GOW and its fine.

A easy way to tell if your 360 is scratching discs, is to simply look at the disc. If the 360 does malnufunction, it will scratch discs in a circular fashion. Ie, the scratch will be consistent around the disc, like a ring. When I checked my brothers discs, they were just poor handling scratches, and not circular in any fashion.

MS also states the dirty disc error is also a result of a corrupt game save file for that game. MS recommend you back your save up to a memory card. Then delete the save off your Hard Drive, and copy it back. It usualyl fixes the problem.

MS also say to try other games. If you have a problem with 3 different games, its definately something wrong, and you are to send it to MS.

Hope this helps.

my friends did that and there was some tape inside that had come loose and what it was supposed to be holding in place was now scratching the disks, take a look and if it's the same problem just tape it back up

Default No EXCUSE!

Really no excuse for 2.5 years of terrible performance and customer service.
Time to grow some balls...

Well guys and gals,
Most of us are into our 360 set-ups at least $500.
I have had 3 "repair cycles" in less than 2 years.

The COD4 "update" killed my unit a month ago.

I am contacting an attorney regarding a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT on behalf of ALL Xbox 360 owners.

Wish US luck!
Best,
Gunny

The extended 3 year warranty only covers the RRoD so if it's a disc drive issue MS won't fix it for free. You can buy a replacement disc drive for around $50. Try using a disc drive cleaning disc and see if that helps.

Don't claim you have RRoD to MS if it doesn't have it, they will check if it does have it and if it doesn't they'll just send it back to you unrepaired.
