R6V2 update bricked my 360!!!

Well it finally happened.......................I went to play R6V2 last night to get some achievements and the game asked for the auto-update so I did that and the game rebooted then froze at the title screen. WTF!!! I turned it off and now have RRoD!

I have had this 360 for almost 2 years with NO problems at all. I just can't believe that an update would brick my console!!

So I call MS customer support and they were really easy to deal with and took only 5 minutes to get through the process.

However, since I need instant gratification I went to Best Buy and bought an Elite (I was gonna buy the 120gb HD anyway at some point). I just wish the data transfer kit came with my Elite so I didn't have to wait to fully utilize my bigger HD. So I guess when I get my 20gb 360 back from MS in a month or so I'll sell it or trade it in.

I wouldn't be mad if I got the RRoD from overheating or something but if an update bricks your console that's just ridiculous!!!

I know of two people who had the RRoD after a COD4 update, I agree it is ridiculous.

So the 360 has hardware AND software issues.

That sucks just got mine back right before GTA came out 2nd time it was sent in for RROD, but luckily I had second one I bought when had the first RROD.

Yep, I'm one of the ones that had the bricking of my console after the COD4 update. Amazing, I didn't blame the update but technically its all I did and it died.

I feel for ya mate.

So you said you got a brand new elite. You can request a migration cable from MS as well, so by the time you get your console back, you'll get the cable as well.

I was almost going to buy a new core yesterday but decided to just wait it out. I shouldn't have to shelve out cash for a new console each time my 360 breaks, its not right.

ANyway, what is the manufacture date of your new console? ALso, whats the lot number on the Box, and whats the power supply rating on the power supply, ie OUTPUT, 203W or 175W?

Just want to know if the Elite you bought may potentially be a falcon.

The Elite I bought was manufactured 3/08 and the power supply is much different from the old one. Not sure on the voltage (I'm not home right now to look)

I'm glad you're happy I got RRoD but it didn't really inconvenience me since I bought an Elite mere moments later. You see in America people have jobs and that gives us money that can be exchanged for goods and services. You know about jobs right? It's that thing you do when you have spare time (in between the drinking contests and constant jig dancing).

It was probably not the update that bricked your console. I've gotten the RRoD before and turned on my system an hour later to find that they're gone. You should have waited a little bit and then made the call.

P.S. If you can't go without your 360 for 3 weeks, you have problems.

I dont think the update is the cause of the bricking. Its just the last thing someone remembers doing before they get the 3 red rings, so you quite often associate that with the red rings.

When my console died, it happened Sat night at 7pm. I did all the tests for half a hour, still was dead. I came back the next day, tried it again, still dead. I logged the call Sunday arvo on Xbox.com. Waited till Tuesday morning to mail the console back, gave it 1 last try on Tuesday morning, still dead. So ample time in my opinion.

And as for going for 3 week without a console, and to say one has problems. Please, the xbox 360 is for most of us a source of entertainment. Once that entertainment source is gone, yes, we must find another. But for some of us, we enjoy the 360. SUre I will survive for 3 weeks, no probs, but why should we? Most of the time I can go longer without even playing, however, when a great game comes out, 3 weeks can seem like a eternity for most.

Anyways, I've been playing GTA4 tonight thanks to my younger bro Andrew who lent me his 360 so I could play GTA4. Now if that ain't love, nothing is. Full on respect to Andrew for the sacrifice. He's only 12 by the way, so a noble gesture indeed.

there is a big difference between going without your 360 for 3 weeks and going without it for 3 weeks just after GTA IV came out. my 360 has bricked twice and it sucked but if it got rrod now then it would piss me off a lot more

Firstly thats the worst burn ever, I ****ing wish I only worked in my spare time between drinking and out on the piss in clubs dancing. If you think working 9-5 Mon-Fri is a cool thing and something to brag about you must be a sad ****, I knows I ****ing hate it. You just burnt me with my dream life lol.

Secondly bragging about making lots of money and buying stuff is fair enough, BUT when that is the same console twice because your clearly a MS fanboy loser who would throw money at a second console makes me doubt you have anything worthwhile spending your cash on, again you kind of burnt yourself.
