It's the only thing that can help you at this point. I am sorry to be the one to tell you but your disc tray is dead. Call that number and all your problems will be solved in an un-timely fashion.

for me it only happens on cod 4, it's happened on a couple of other games once or twice but very rarely, but with cod 4 it happens every time i put the disk in

Hi,

My younger Bro has a Nov 06 console, so 1 year old when bought and its been fine up till 2 months ago. He was getting disc errors with GOW. So I had the disc cleaned and it still did it. We thought nothing of it until GTA4 came out. While I was borrowing his console (as mine was being repaired for RROD) I was getting craploads of disc errors on GTA4, a brand new game! Even when I played my GOW, it was also getting errors.

Thinking I'll monitor the situation, my younger bro receives his console back (as mine is returned by MS) and he starts playing GTA4 as well, and sure enuff, on his copy he was also getting craploads of disc errors.

So I logged it with MS via their website (under console registration etc) and sent his back. THey sent back his console 2 weeks later, all fixed. I opened the disc drive and checked that its the new BenQ driver (like the elites have). Seems MS replace all drives with the newer Benq drives. A easy way to tell is to look at the following pic.

So anyway, send your console to MS.

Should be up now.

The launch units had the Toshiba Drives, these were noisy as hell.

Next come the Hitachi drives. These are better, but still a issue.

The most recent is the BenQ drive, featured on teh far right.

Hope it helps.

Maybe you were trying to put resistance 1 into your 360 and got confused?

My drive is starting to crap out too. usually I have to open/close the drive 2 or 3 times to get it to read a disc. It's like it doesn't want to spin up to speed all the time. I'm tempted to sell mine used for $150 and then grab one of the $299.00 units NEW.... but I would need a memory card to transfer my save data.

I had disc errors on a few games, definately not as much as what you guys are reporting though.

I simply now start my games from pushing the eject button when the 360 is switched off. This of course ejects the tray and powers on the 360. Once the dashboard is loaded I close the tray (just by selecting close tray on the dash). And the game auto loads. I saw this suggested on another site for this problem and I have never had a disc error since. Worth trying.
