Default X360 'Jasper' motherboard confirmed for August - slimline due 2009

65 Nm GPUs For Xbox 360 In Production, Xbox '540' Coming In 2009

Xbox 360's featuring the new 'Jasper' configuration are expected to roll of the assemblyline sometime next month.

The Jasper motherboard will replace the existing Falcon motherboard which appears to have put a signifigant dent in the dreaded RROD curse almost a year on from it's debut in 2007. (Some have claimed as low as 4% although this is not officially confirmed as yet)

The Jasper configuration will feature the smaller 65nm CPU (processor) currently found on the Falcon - but will now replace the aging 90nm Graphics Processor with a 65nm variant similiar to the Falcon CPU. It's anticipated that Jasper will run even cooler than Falcons and experience a similiar (if not better) failure rate. While details identifying Jasper motherboards in shops are not available yet - it's logical to assume that the new variant will feature a power output less than the existing 175w required by Falcons or the 203w required by the RROD-prone Zephyrs.

...and Jasper's replacement is already in the works. Sometime in 2009, Microsoft is planning to introduce an even smaller chipset for the gpu and cpu in the 45nm range. It's rumoured that this new configuration will feature in a new slimline version of the X360 already being dubbed the 'Xbox 540.' Not yet nicknamed, the slimline Xbox 360 is expected to be the last architecture variant of the 360's console lifecycle which will serve until the 360 is finally retired in favour of a newer generation.

Sounds like the 60GB Jasper is gonna be the perfect time for me to upgrade my 360. Though that slimline would be sweet too !

Ugh, where is the 4% number coming from? There is no mention of it in that link.

so, i think my question would be, when the new xbox comes out, the next gen, that is, do you think people will swarm out to buy it, after so many issues happened with these current launch consoles? or maybe microsoft will do a bit more R&D before the release.

i predict it will have the same success as the slim PS2 release. of course, i don't have much to base this one otherwise, so why not? will it have more margin than the current console?

Can I get a link to where that 4% is coming from? I posted this on another board, and they had my ass because there was no mention of the Falcon defect rate in that link. Anyone??

there's no official statements yet, Raven - that number is based on collective observation by gamers although some will say it's anywhere up to 10%.

What IS known is that RROD reports on genuine Falcon boards (not 'Elites' because some were Zephyr) are few and far between.

Here is an insider report where the person being interviewed suggests a failure rate of 'sub 10%' for Falcons.

Inside Source Reveal the Truth About Xbox 360 "Red Ring of Death" Failures

Again - this is all conjecture until Microsoft makes an official statement likely towards the fall. I have ammended my original post to prevent misleading further readers.

You have my apologies.

...and if anyone accuses you of telling lies - just tell them that it's far easier to believe a Falcon RROD rate of < 10% than a PS3 failure rate of < 1% (which is utter tosh)...it all depends on what people want to consider rumour or truth I suppose.

wasn't the launch failure rate already below 10%? i'm sure there will be way fewer RROD's with the Falcons than with launch consoles, but using that figure is not saying much.

Ditto - this is the norm for Falcon boards.

Amazing what a smaller processor and a heat sink can do.

Hey peoples how ya doing??? Well I wanted to ask a ? for anyone who can answer...

1. How can I tell if the new xbox 360 60g has the "Jasper" on it?
2. Can I read on the box of the 360 if the jasper is in it?
3. What do I look for on the 360 box that can tell me is the new "Jasper" or anything new that can let me know that the 360 60g has been upgraded to be more cooler and less noise than the previous ones?

If anyone can help me that would be great cause I don't know much about computers but I'm a true gamer cause I just love to play games ever since the Atari(and I still have one a working one)....Thank You!!!

I think im just going to go buy an arcade unit when the new set comes out, and a 120gb hard drive. Put the old hard drive on the new arcade unit, put it in the bedroom, and slap the 120 on the launch console until it dies.. no probs with that scheme is there?

So should I get the 360 60 g or the 20g? Now i'm not worry about the space it has I'm looking for a 2008 model with less rrod problems so I heard about the 60g has something that would lower the rrod problems and not cause itto overheat and cool it down more but either you or someone let me know which console is better to get the 2008 20g or 60g? and not worry about price or space but wich one will last me longer the 20g or the new 60g? Thank you!!!!
