Posts: 5 | HELP PLEASE.. Will XBOX VGA work with HDCP? I'd first like to say hello to all of you, this is my first post/thread. I would also like to ask you a question regarding the VGA cable for 360. I just bought a 21.6in Samsung SyncMaster 2253lw. Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 2253LW High-gloss Black 21.6" 5ms (2ms GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 8000:1(1000:1) - LCD Monitors It has both a VGA input and a DVI input. I would like to know:
1. Will the Microsoft VGA cable work with this monitor since it is HDCP?
2. If it does work, will it be HD? since that is the point of HDCP.
3. Would it be better to use an HDMI to DVI even though that is more expensive? Also how would i get audio seeing as there are no speakers on my monitor?
I just kind of want to get an idea of what I'm getting myself into here and if anyone has come across this before
I would greatly appreciate answers, so if anyone can answer these to the best of their ability, it would be amazing
Thanks,
Justin |

Posts: 2,650 | Yes this monitor will work with your standard Microsoft VGA cable. It will run in
720p high definition.
For sound, I would recommend the Logitech X-530 speaker system. They are standard computer speakers (in a 5.1 variant) with fantastic sound quality at an affordable price. They come with an adapter too so you can directly connect your Xbox 360 sound cable. I personally own the same speakers in a 2.1 variant (No longer produced) and they are by far the best speakers I have ever owned. Check newegg |

Posts: 5 | thanks man.. i have Logitech Z-5300e that i bought last year, but i was inquiring as to the sound because doesn't the audio run through the HDMI cable, hence giving me no sound when i convert to DVI because of the lack of monitor speakers. But anyways.. then if I'm using analog VGA, it will not make a difference whether or not i have HDCP since it is not digital, no? |

Posts: 3,184 | It shouldn't make any difference as the HDCP only works across the digital inputs. You should have no problem whatsoever running your 360 on it (the same way a PC would work on it).
Hope that helps |

Posts: 5 | exactly what i was hoping to hear.. thanks y'all
another thing dealing with this i just thought of.. since my screen has a native resolution of 1680x1050 (16:10) which is not supported by the vga cable, will it display the 720p with bars on top and bottom in 16:9 aspect ratio, or will it use my native resolution and just accommodate?

Justin | After doing some research i have discovered that the monitor you mention isnt HD ready. It has a lot of common faults and your better of getting a refund and just buying a normal tele. Also there wont be anymore support or spare parts for this in the future. Also there are no drivers for it which means hooking your pc up to it will only allow you to run it at 640X480 resolution on your pc and not go HD. And guess what its not full hd

Theres a lot of negative feedback on it.

I bought this monitor basically to play on the Xbox 360. I didn't want to waste a lot of money on some flat panel TV, so i decided to go for this monitor. It's awesome.. but i got it with a dead pixel on the left side of the screen. Five stars for the monitor.. i know that the dead pixel isn't samsung's fault. Oh well..

The monitor could be 5 stars but the documentation costs it a star. Besides having to download the program, the paperwork directs the owner to register on line - however, that webpage directs you to create an account if you are "new" - with no link or instruction on how to create an account. I went to the "My Account" link, which was a functionless page as well. Had to send an email about the registration process and page - still unanswered. (Got standard reply today, 10/1. Directed me to same blank page. However, I noticed my mouse went to an "I" bar on some of it, so I refreshed the page. Ta-da, the whole page appeared. However, I had to do that on every page...) |

I'm confused.. i didn't see anywhere in there where it said it wouldn't work with 360, even the first comment you gave said it worked and it was awesome, and i have no dead pixels (crossing my fingers and knocking on wood) i think the whole running on 640x480 means you have a crappy GPU cause mine runs just fine at 1680x1050. I have also downloaded movie trailers in 720p which look just dandy to me. I know that this would not be full HD, i wasnt asking for 1080p (1920x1080) cause as you can see 1680x1050 is not even close to that, and since that is not the only hd, just the best. I wanted to know if i would get 720p and maybe a lil better with some scaling. Also, how isnt it HD ready when its resolution is 1650x1050(XHD and better than 720p resolution) and comes with HDCP(which is intended to cut down on HIGH DEFINITION piracy)? i know its doesnt have a tuner, is that why you say its not hd ready? I was kind of going with the economical approach here seeing as im a college student and dont have tons of cash to throw around on fancy HDTVs. Lastly, you say there is alot of negative feedback on that site but by my calculations more than 96% of the people rated it as 4 star or higher with 75% of them being 5/5. You said you did your research but nothing you have said makes any sense at all.

Sites and research aside - this is the answer.
HDCP is an authentication protocol - that's it. There should be no reason why it would prevent you from watching any signal using any available as HDCP is only implemented over HDMI.
In terms of VGA vs DVI/HDMI - you still won't have HDCP (DVI only supports non-authenticated video) - but DVI/HDMI has better colour depth and is allegedly more vibrant with colours than VGA.
So there ya go, mate.
However - if you are NOT using HDMI, you will not be able to watch any HiDef media encoded with HDCP protocol - this includes both HDDVD and BluRay.
That's it, that's all.
Other than that - see what works and what you like best.
One piece of advice, mate - if someone is trying to help you - say 'thank you' even if you're not happy with the help you received.
That's the polite thing to do n'est'ce pas?
