So my bros xbox died. He had the replacement warranty with it from best buy so they are sending in a gift card for the purchase price. They let him keep his hard drive. He wants to get the xbox arcade when it goes down to 199 on sept 7th. How does he get the arcade to work with his hard drive he has now.

You had an XBox previously. Are you saying you can't remember where you took it out from? In general, there should be a slot to put it into the Arcade console, since they sell hard drives at the XBOX.com store.
EDIT: Let me get this straight. They let him keep the hard drive, which is like half/a quarter of the purchase price, and they gave him a FULL refund?

That's great and all, but did you understand what I meant? There should be a slot to put the hard drive in. If there isn't, then you have a problem.

Having said that - I'm unsure as to whether you need to still contact Microsoft about your licenses for any downloaded purchases).

Nope, i believe MS introduced some new thing to handle the DRM for DLC on new 360s

ah - they did what i thought they'd do - tie it to the account.
So as long as you're signed in with the account registered with the game - you're savy.
