Default 5.1 Surround Sound support

Hello,
I know that the 360 premium package comes with the correct cables for hooking up your 360 to a HDTV capable TV. I was wondering what cables it came with for hooking up to a 5.1 surround sound system. My DVD players hooks up to my receiver using an optical cable, is that what comes with the 360 premium package?

If your reciever is hooked to your TV and the feed is up and running, hook your 360 to your TV and the sorround sound should be set. I have a 5.1 Panasonic sorround.

It comes with HD cables. I *think* it also includes an optic cable as well. The info is in the launch guide somewhere, but I don't have it available, sorry.

You should pick one up though. It has lots of great info on the 360. Check Coles. It's made by OXM by the way.

Yeah I have a copy of the guide but couldn't find it in there. I'll take another look tomorrow. For 5.1 surround sound don't you require a optical cable or HDMI connection?

Hook your 360 using your optical cable to your receiver, and the video feed to the T.V then just go into to the settings menu on the 360 set it to 5.1 and your set. This is the correct way.

Sweet.. I didn't know about the optical audio cable. I think my TV has a couple of optical ports on the back.

Does Xbox 360 supports DTS, like the Xbox did, for movies I mean? How come games are not coming in this format?

While the 360 Premium package will come with the HD connections, it will not come with an optical cable included. The HD cables come with a port for an optical feed, just like the current XBOX HD cables. The optical cable will need to be purchased by the customer. Hopefully you have one already lying around. GL.

Thanks IconiC that's what I was looking for and what I thought was going to happen. I think I'll hold off until the 360 comes out to make sure I purchase the right cable, just means no 5.1 surround sound on day one.
