Posts: 20 | Xbox360 HiDef info Does anyone happen to know if all games are going to be in 1080i format as well as the 720p minimum that has been stated. i hope the 1080i format will be a minimum as well because i have a 52in widescreen tv that only supports 420p and 1080i. any kind of info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! thx. |

Posts: 66 | My thoughts would be that games would hopefully support a min of 480p, which is also the most widely accepted format. Certain manufactures will choose to also go after 720p or 1080i for various reasons. The largest problem with HD is that there is no clear cut standard for manufactures, that is why various sets support different formats. |

Posts: 502 | well most TV's will convert the signal to their native resolution, but from what I remember Microsoft has stated that 720p is the minimum and that ALL developers are required to have at least that, so from reading those announcements I dont think you'll see any that are at just 480p since they are pushing the HD so much for the 360. And 480p is nowhere near HD, its just better than old 480i lol
but dont know what to tell you metalhed unless your TV lets you upgrade its HD box possibly if you have an older one, you could always sell it and snag a new DLP for a relatively moderate cost, especially a 52" one. As most 60"'s are now rather affordable considering the costs just a year ago. Just an idea though if you aren't able to get around your TV's imput problem. and some developers may make their games in 1080i. Just I wouldn't expect many of them to do so unless well who knows lol |

woot woot. go hi-def. that's a good question though an we should have much more info on that in a few weeks.

Posts: 109 | I must have the same TV. A 2-1/2 yr. old Sony 51". Or maybe just TV's made that long ago didn't have the ability to display a native 720p picture even though their actual resolution is 1900x1080. I could't believe my eyes after I finally got around to reading my manual a year later. The salesman told me it would display 720p. Either he was lying or he was mis-informed. I hope for 720p/1080i option for all games so I can get the max from my set. i KNOW that Halo 3 will be in 1080i, probably other first party titles as well, maybe even Madden since that is so popular.

Posts: 502 | my friend is in the same boat with his older HDTV skipping 720p and only doing the other formats.
Thing is Microsoft said the minimum is 720p so you know you'll have that, but 1080i will depend on if the developer does it. Also keep in mind while 1080i looks GREAT for sports its not as great for games. If you throw some of the very few games out in xbox or ps2 that do in fact support both 720p and 1080i the 720p looks better. Even though your packing a little less resolution with 720p the progressive scan just looks better for games and keeps it smoother. The 1080i just didn't look better and sure didn't run as smooth. So any games that have 1080i I'll be like "yay" but I probably wont run it on that just depends.
Sorry your tv doesn't support 720p though that bites and is one of those bad things about technology and when they make new things. A lot of my friends were bummed when they got their sets right before HDMI hookups came up. Which HDMI doesn't look hardly any better than Component. Just puts it all in one cable so its convenient, ok before I ramble more |

Posts: 2 | 720p and 1080i are the only High Def standards. I also have a HDTV that only displays 1080i, not 720p. This is not a big deal, if the TV recieves a 720p signal, it just converts it to 1080i for display.
I have a cable box that has HD programs. Some are shown in 1080i, some in 720p. On my TV it is always displays 1080i, I can't even tell the difference.
For a regular non HD TV hooked up via the standard AV Cables, the signal will be downsampled to 480i. It's not gonna be high def on a regular TV but a High Def signal downsampled to 480i is still going to be the best looking picture possible on a regular TV. |

As I discovered with mine there is almost ZERO video quality difference between a great set of THX component cables and a good HDMI cable. The only thing good for HDMI is if you just are filling up your tv's components you have that extra option to fill it with something else. If I have the choice I use my component. They look just as good. So dont let people hype you on the HDMI, its just nice I guess that it also carries the audio signal. But since I'll be using the optical for the 360 that wont even be an issue I just use the HDMI on mine for the HD cablebox since I have the components filled up already |

Posts: 502 | yeah that doesn't sound right, all the prior announcements just say "we guarantee at least 720p as developers know that is the minimum" and then it mentioned some games would have 1080i but not all of them |
