Check your system, see how many inputs it has on the back. The best (to my knowledge) audio is the Optical Audio, it's a strange looking plug, the input for it should resemble a phone plug, but smaller. Last I researched that has the best quality, that's what I have hooked up to my existing xbox....

if your system doesn't have any inputs (and some dont), then you gotta get one that does.......cause I KNOW you want surround......

What are you looking to spend? I'd highly suggest getting a surround sound system with a reciever. The DVD players with built in surround sound aren't that good in my personal opinion.

It's not nearly as much about the reciever as it is about the speaker. Yes insure the reciever has optical inputs. But my first system was a box system (one that comes with the speakers and the reciever all in one box). Later on I was sampling upgrades in speakers and you would not believe the distortion and noise (back ground static that covers up the clarity of sound) Because of this I invested $1300 in my system between the speakers and reciever. The point is if you only have $160 than just expect to get that quality of sound based upon that price.

yeah in the end it all depends how much you have to spend and what features you need versus want. I have had my speakers for years..but they came with one of the best warranties at that time...( cambridge sound work speakers, look em up...lol ) as for the audio, everything has remained the same except the reciever,...that I upgraded and plan on upgrading again possibly this year. What I personally need is a better screen...lol. Yes a Sony 36" flat Screen Wega isn't bad, but not HD...lol
