Can't sign into live

Well it all started the other night while i was playing halo. The game froze and I shut it off and then it flashed me the red lights. So i turned it off and the lights showed up again. Then I took my hard drive off and tried to turn it on again. This time it worked so I signed back on and continued to play. I got about as far as two matches in matchmaking and it froze again. Then I shut it off and it gave me red lights again. So I called ms and they are sending me a box to get a new one. So knowing that mass effect comes out this week I made a deal with my friend and i'm letting him use my PS3 for his 360 for this week. So I bring his xbox home and slap my hard drive on it thinking I could sign onto live. first I thought my wireless internet was messed up so i took my wireless adapter off and hooked it right into the modem. Then I tried to sign on with it hook directly into the modem and it didn't work. So now the only thing I can think of is my hard drive or my ISP is screwed up. Do guys have any idea what it could be.

Never heard of an HDD going bad so it is most likely your ISP or the config

Your probably right because all of my saves and downloaded content are still on there. So i guess it can't be my HDD.
