Posts: 575 | I think I figured out why Im not happy over this game. The rewind function. Hear me out, alright, when you smash into a was or blow up you can rewind right. Buuuuut, if you dont want to you can sit there for about a second and bam, your back on the road in a new car doing 100mph. Not close to death like you would of been after hitting rewind. So, where does that come in handy? They made a big stink out of it, but in the end it just turned out to be another thing to write on the back of the box. Good game, maybe more of a rental then a buy.
I'd give it a 4 1/2 out of 10. |

Posts: 42 | the trouble with this game is it combines two different games -- arcade racing and blowing $h!+ up. And they don't combine well here.
The driving is okay -- sorta NFSNW, but even less realistic. I havent played RidgeRacer yet, but I bet its close to that (minus the silly powersliding).
The boom boom is quite fun, even though you CAN'T blow everything up.
Unfortunately, its too difficult to do both sucessfully. There's really no point to blowing up the city, racing-wise. Theoretically, you could drop some concrete on a car, but it would be wild, random chance -- nothing stays still long enough to set up and aim the cool shot. If you don't have rear weapons, you are gonna get blasted by anybody behind you. So, you're left driving around the track, slapping the fire buttons like there's no tomorrow, but winning and losing seems awfully flip-of-the-coin to me.
I can't imagine this on Live. Doing this with 8 people? I'm not sure how much skill will end up being involved, And losing a race because 6 people launched 32 missles at me will most likely just piss me off.
The engine is stellar -- a Twisten Metal /GTA hybrid (prowling a living city, occasionally getting into life or death destructo-fights with other cars, chasing them down and blowing the hell outta them) I think would have been great, but the racing ain't great racing, and the boom boom seems like it should be in a different game altogether. |

Posts: 330 | i think u guys are being a little cruel...i agree that the handling is not top notch, but i disagree about the controls...i found them very simple...and i think the rewind helps alot...if u get ur back armor blown off, it is very convienient to be able to just rewind and get it back...and i definitly disagree about the racing/shooting combo...it makes the game much more interesting
i give it an 7.5 or 8 out of ten

It would piss a lot of people off every ten seconds another person was rewinding the race. Who cares though, as I said before this game blows. The only reason i would even think about renting this game after release is for some quick gamerpoints.

Interesting? yes. Added dimension to the racing? IMO, no.
Mabye you did more with it than me, but how did you use it with the racing? All I could do was either (a) get behind another car, then "Track-n-Field" twitch-tap the weapons to unleash hell at them (which they seem to survive for quite a long time under), or (b) randomly shoot at anything in front of me to earn some unwreck and watch shrapnel fly. The first was, for me, an impediment to racing. Fun, yes, but 6 cars in a single-file line thru an alley all shooting is (neat but) silly. THe second seemed like an excuse to get me to make boom booms, but I'm going too fast to appreciate my gloriously destructive handiwork. Its like censored Playboy -- why take nekkid girly pictures and publish them if nobodys going to see them?
Again, the boom boom is loads of fun. My favorite so far it blasting the overhead train tresels. After they get all shrapnel-y (and DONT FALL DOWN!! Wasn't that the big draw?), the trains roll thru about a minute later, and the sparks from the train-wreck are hella cool. But I had to forgo racing to enjoy it.
p.s. what's up with the barely controlable replay? Why do games that push the pretty boom boom (Burnout3+4, FullAuto) not let me replay a cool destructo moment from a good vantage point? |
