Posts: 36 | Does playing on Live contribute to downloads? I have a question about XBOX Live. When you play online, does it contribute to your downloads (as I go on a cap plan, when it goes over a certain amount, it'll slow down or charge extra on the bill)? The main reason I ask is that I don't want to be paying excess download fees on top of Live subscription.

My monthly limit is 40gb, I download more than that in 2 weeks on average and they have NEVER slowed me down or overcharged me.

And its bytes sent/recieved so yes it does count if your IP are scabby.

If it is I haven't got much to worry about.

Posts: 2,322 | it seems your question got answers from all over and a bit convoluted.
Live doesn't charge you anything other then the yearly fee (or monthly or however you buy it). How much you can download/upload is between you and your ISP. MS won't charge you anymore or less for how much you use Live, unless you are downloading content from Marketplace.

Posts: 36 | I don't think I went into too much detail on my question... I'll try again.
I mean how much data on average is transferred from your XBOX to the ISP and to the server and back again. And does it contribute to downloads (aside from Marketplace stuff) like downloading songs or photos would?

Nothing to do with MS.
How do people know how much they use a month? i have unlimited downloads, but would be interested to know how much i do download. |

Posts: 827 | The most important thing is to understand what Internet Plan you are on.
ie are you on unlimited data, or say 5GB, 10GB, 20GB etc? Check your bill or call your ISP.
Then determine if your ISP also charges for uploads.
My ISP Telstra charge for downloads and uploads. I receive 25GB of data per month, both Up and Down. Also, when I go over my 25GB, I simply get slowed to dial up speeds, however, some ISP charge you a rate ie say 15c per Megabyte. SO it really pays to check your ISP.
Being on XBL doesn't use much bandwith, until you do something, like play mulitplayer games, or say download data off XBL. Also, hosting matches uses allot of data as well. Typically on most nights of say 3 or so hours of Gears of War, I'd download about 300MB and upload about 400 MB. My total usage that day would be 700MB. But if your ISP doesn't count uploads, then your usage would only be 300MB.
Get what I am saying.
There are infinite answers, you must check your ISP.
